Actor Dinesh Anand shot dead at Borivali

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 14: Unidentified assailants shot dead a 35-year-old Bollywood actor before dumping his body in a car at Sanjay Gandhi National Park this afternoon. According to the police, actor Dinesh Anand's bullet-ridden body was found in his red Honda City (MH03 K 8373) car abandoned near Gandhi Tekdi in the core forests of the national park at 4.15 pm today.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Anand was shot at close range with a .38 revolver. His body bore bullet wounds in the head and chest. Eyewitnesses told police that Anand was killed in the upper reaches of the park and the body was dumped near Gandhi Tekdi. The shooters escaped through a narrow gate before melting into the adjoining slum pockets.

However, the police suspect that Anand could have been murdered at some isolated spot in the dense forest near Kanheri caves. Which is why there was no noise of gunfire, police said.

Anand had left his residence at Four Bungalows at 11.30 am after telling his wife that he was attending prayers at a church at Mahim. Later, he told his family that he was leaving for outdoor shooting and would return late in the evening.

Even as the police are trying to ascertain the identities of the shooters, the killing could be a fallout an extortion demand. It is still not clear whether Anand had underworld links.

Anand's latest film was Kuch Khati Kuch Meeti, which had Sunil Shetty and Kajol as lead actors. His other pictures are Khauf, Khiladi No 420 and Dil Ne Fir Yaad Kiya.
