Catherine Zeta-Jones fears for baby Dylan’s future

Catherine Zeta-Jones fears that her baby son Dylan will not be able to lead a normal childhood because of his famous parents.

The Welsh actress who married film star Michael Douglas in a high-profile wedding in New York in November, gave birth to their son last summer.
“In two years’ time I want to be able to take my son to the park and not have to explain why 20 people with cameras are running after us”, Zeta-Jones said in an interview with the TV Times.

“I hope this frenzy will die down so that he won’t have to sacrifice the good things just because photographers are documenting his every move.”

In her latest film, Traffic, Zeta-Jones, 31, stars alongside Douglas as the pregnant wife of a drugs baron. She said the film opened her eyes to the dangers of drugs and that she worried the added pressure of having famous parents may make Dylan vulnerable. “Think about it, he’s the son of a famous mum, dad and grandfather. His self-identity could be knocked constantly, because he may have to work harder to make a name for himself as a lot of people will have the attitude ‘Oh, he’s from that family — everything is an easy ride for him’.”

“Kids are at their most vulnerable when they’re like that. It terrifies me”, Zeta-Jones said, adding she would show the film to Dylan as soon as possible. But it is not just her son she wants to protect from media intrusions. She is also determined to protect her marriage with 56-year old Douglas from what she called “the media’s insatiable appetite for any information, truth, lies, or plain old gossip.”

“I know there’s going to be a point when everyone will have their knives out, and publicly looking to photograph or write something that is detrimental to us or how we feel about each other”, Zeta-Jones said.
