TIME WILL TELL

Screen - The Business of entertainment

Feature that talks about the upcoming stars of tomorrow.
Lisa Ray

Her career as a top-flight model began when she got assigned a Bombay Dyeing ad with Karan Kapoor. We’ve also seen the brandy-eyed sensation in the album, Afreen Afreen, or anchoring the TV show, Starbiz with Kelly Dorjie. Today, she has also come to be known as the Lakme girl. The Canada-born Lisa also loves to write, and has written several articles for The Indian Express and Cosmopolitan. The model is now preparing for a career in tinsel town, with Kasoor. Directed by Vikram Bhatt and featuring Aftab Shivdasani as her co-star, the film is poised for an early release. Candid in her self analysis and here is what she says...

Your nickname...b’day...zodiac sign.
Brain...4th April...Aries.

For how long have you been entertaining dreams of a career in the movies?
Never. Acting was never on my mind, for I was set on a career in other fields.

Do you believe in destiny?
Very strongly. For I think was destined to be an actress, for if I’d had my way, I’d have been a lawyer or journalist.

Your greatest passion in life?
I am passionate about everything I do, about too many things around me. I see to it that I devote my 100 percent to things I undertake to do.

When depressed, what’s the first thing you’d do?

I read a book, for it helps me fight my depression, and instils a certain peace within me.

With whom and how would you like to share your moments of happiness?

But of course with my near and dear ones, and that includes my close friends.

Who would you consider as your mentor in life?
My father. I am loaded with ideas inspired by him. I can never thank him enough for these.

How important is music to you?
Well, I am not much of a music person. And I certainly can’t claim to have any great taste in it. I am far too caught up in the struggles of life to spare much thought for music.

How would you describe yourself in one word?

Intense.
