KBC’s stars top TRP ratings on New Year’s Eve

The results of the war fought between channels on New Year’s Eve are out. Ahead of its schedule, TAM has released the TRP ratings of programmes shown on various television channels on December 31, 2000. According to the flash rating released by TAM, Sony’s Eternal Asha grabbed the overall channel share, while Kaun Banega Crorepati on Star Plus topped the TRP rating in most cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, Ahmedabad, Kanpur and Bangalore.

The special edition of KBC with Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee got 12.6 points in Mumbai, 12.4 in Delhi, 19.4 in Calcutta, 21.5 in Ahmedabad, 20.2 in Kanpur and 10.2 in Bangalore, topping at all these places.

The southern cities of Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi were the odd men out, where KBC was either very low in the TRP rating or not there at all. In Chennai, all the five TRP slots have gone to Sun TV. In Hyderabad, Eenadu is the leader with Gemini on second, third and fourth spot. Star’s KBC is on the fifth spot with 8.1 points in Hyderabad. Kochi again has KBC on the trail with 7 points, while DD Malayalam, Asianet and Surya are much ahead.

As Eternal Asha on Sony was shown over a longer duration than many other programmes on other channels, Sony has got the maximum overall channel share. Individually, Eternal Asha is a close second after KBC in several channels. In Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, Ahmedabad and Kanpur, Eternal Asha is second with 9.7, 7.3, 14, 10.5 and 7.9, respectively.

Apart from Star Plus’ KBC and Sony’s Eternal Asha, others to figure in this flash TRP rating include Jai Ganesh on Zee; Family Fortune, Mukti Red Ribbon Concert and Chalti Ka Naam Antakshari on Star Plus, Millennium Masti and Gummat Gulal on DD1; Badshah feature film on DD Metro; feature film on DD Bangla; Sun TV; Enadu; Gemini; DD Malayalam; and Asianet.
