Ad Club ties up with Sony to host India Ad Festival

The Advertising Club Bombay has joined hands with Sony Entertainment to host the country’s first ever advertising festival billed as "India Advertising Festival - Synergy 2001" from March 29 to 31, this year in Mumbai.

In an effort to showcase the best of Indian advertising, the Advertising Club Bombay has been hosting ‘Annual ABBY Awards’ for the last 33 years. This year, in addition to its popular ABBY Awards, the club has lined up a host of awards, quiz shows, exhibitions and seminars.

With the theme "Synergy in Brand Communications", the club’s three-day ad festival packs seven events which include the ABBY Awards, the EMVIE Awards, the EFFIE Awards, Ad Quiz 2001 (with Derek O’Brien), the Synergy Art Show, Synergy 2001 Exhibition and seminars.

Comments Advertising Club Bombay president Kaushik Roy: "It’s time India had its own advertising festival. This year, we have embarked on an ambitious project." According to Sumit Roy, chairperson, Indian Advertising Festival, the main objective of the festival is to consolidate India’s position in international advertising. "Also create a forum for not just India, but South Asia. We also want to honour more than just the writers and art directors this year," adds Roy.

To tackle the menace of scam ads, the club has set up an independent preview panel to scrutinise the entries this year, informs Roy. So what’s new in ABBY 2001? According to ABBY Committee chairperson Gautam Rakshit, for the first time the club has invited six international judges to judge the best in Indian advertising.

"This year, we have 16 product categories and 20 panel jury for the press, TV, campaign and special media. We have a new category for ‘Unpublished Work’ this year. We have instituted awards for the best art director and copy writer of the year in 2001," adds Rakshit. The club plans to host seminars which will feature renowned international as well as Indian speakers.
