Rowling and Brosnan, the rich and the famous
Best-selling childrens author J.K. Rowling and
James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan are some of the latest
names to join the ranks of the rich and famous in the
2001 edition of Britains Whos Who.
Other new entries include world heavyweight boxing champion
Lennox Lewis.
First published in 1849, the 30,000-strong list is compiled
by a secret panel of specialists who select entries
for their contribution to a particular field.
Tim Allen seeks quick film before threatened strike
Its coming down to the wire for Tim Allen, one
of the last A-list actors still uncommitted to a film
before threatened writers and actors strikes
next summer. The actor, who recently learned that Disney
plans to postpone production of The Santa Clause II
until after the strikes, is in advanced talks both with
the Mouse House to star in Public Enemy and with Fox
to make Joe Somebody. Both projects are slated to go
pre-strike.
Meanwhile, reps for Allen say the actor is still committed
to Disneys Santa Clause II and Imagine/Universals
Cat and the Hat, also slated for a post-strike start.
Allen next appears in Disneys Big Trouble and
Seven Arts Cletis Tout, both due in theaters later
this year. He was last in theaters with sci-fi spoof
Galaxy Quest a year ago.
John Cusack makes quantum leap in new movie
John Cusack, last in theaters with High Fidelity, has
committed to star in and produce Cosmic Banditos.
Based on the soon to be republished novel by A.C. Weisbecker,
Banditos follows the adventures of some Colombian marijuana
smugglers on the lam in the jungle one of them
an American expatriate who would be played by Cusack.
The tome will be republished in March by the New American
Library trade imprint.
The book will be adapted for the screen by Sid and Nancy
scribe Abbe Wool and Jimmy Fishman, the producer of
1999s Desperate But Not Serious.
Its just really original, said Cusack,
adding, It deals with quantum mechanics in a gonzo,
gung-ho sort of way.
Debra Messing leads stars drawn to Mothman
Debra Messing, Will Patton, Lucinda Jenney and Alan
Bates have joined Richard Gere and Laura Linney in The
Mothman Prophecies, a psychological thriller expected
to start shooting Jan. 24 in Pittsburgh.
Gere plays a reporter who is drawn to a small West Virginia
town to investigate a series of strange events, including
psychic visions and the appearance of bizarre entities.
He soon discovers his wife (Will & Grace co-star
Messing) experienced similar phenomena just before her
death.
Mark Pellington (Arlington Road) will direct the film,
which will be released domestically by Sonys Screen
Gems, with producer Lakeshore Entertainment handling
foreign rights.
