Stage company launched by McGregor aand Law

The London stage, which is currently watching the dazzle and glitter of Hoollywood stars, saw the launch of a new company by British fil stars Ewan McGregor and Jude Law. The two said the company offered a welcome chance to return to their theatrical roots and stressed they had no plans to make it a star-driven British antidote to the Hollywood invasion.

But the pulling power of Star Wars star McGregor and Law, nominated for an Oscar for his role in The Talented Mr. Ripley is certain to give box office clout to the newly formed Natural Nylon Theater Company.

Their first productions are to be Christopher Marlowe’s Dr Faustus, a Christopher Hampton translation of Chekhov’s The Three Sisters and an adaptation of John Fowles’ haunting novel The Collector.

Law told a packed London news conference: “We are making a positive step, hopefully, to improve the quality of theater . We are adding to the mix.” McGregor, who has just completed his second Star Wars film as Obi Wan Kenobi, was eager to tread the boards once more.

“I have always believed that there is a snobbery from one to the next — movie to theater and vice versa. If you are lucky to work in both as Jude and I are, then you realize they both teach you about the other”, he said.

London’s theaterland has recently attracted a string of Hollywood stars. Kathleen Turner, Kevin Spacey and Jessica Lange abandoned their opulent movie trailers for pokey little dressing rooms — and garnered rave reviews for their performances.
