Catching up with Karisma

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With an extra spring in her step, Karishma literally smiled her way to her seat alongside Salman Khan at Le Merdien last Saturday. Exuberating a certain tranquil poise, Karishma was simplicity exemplified, dressed in dark-blue jeans topped with a black polo-neck.

Asked how it felt to be associated with the film industry after a decade of acting, Karishma answered, ``It has been a great experience, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. It is very good to know that people have appreciated my work.'' Speaking on the different genres of films, the hazel-eyed beauty emphasised, ``It is we who differentiate between art and commercial films. No such separation actually exists.''

How does Karishma feel about her recent films, Fiza and Zubeida making waves at the box office? ``I have enjoyed doing both the films,'' she beams, ``My roles in Zubeida and Fiza were totally different. Specially in Fiza, it was good to see people appreciate me in normal, unglamourous clothes. It was certainly very challenging working for Fiza.''

What kind of roles does Karishma prefer to take up? ``See, I don't differentiate between films, be it commercial or art. All movies are the same. If I like a movie, I just take up the offer.''

Apparently, Karishma has a long standing association with aamchi Pune and its people. ``My grandfather had lots of attachment to the city,'' she exclaims, ``Quite a bit of the film Zubeida was also shot in Pune.''

Karishma had trained with Pune's prime danseuse Ewa Maria Cherukuru for a song sequence in Zubeida. Speaking about the experience, Karishma quips, ``Working with Ewa was great since everything was so authentic. She is a wonderful teacher.''
