Going
gaga over songs
Jaaneman, jaanemen tere do nayan, chori chori leke gaya dekho
mera man, reveals so many heartfelt feelings that work in
a two-way traffic between two hearts. Is mod se jaate hai,
raises a few questions, that every heart in love has to answer
in their tryst with love. Sandese aate hai is bound to unleash
memories to remind one of their loved ones who are away.
These were only a few songs, sung by colleges in the second
elimination rounds of Castrol Saaz, a part of Pepsi Verve
2001 at the Ambedkar Sanskrutik Bhavan on January 22.
The stage
saw different groups occupying and emptying within seconds
to keep the show running. Most of the colleges belted out
at least one song dedicated to classical music. The rounds
posed quite a stiff competition, especially as most of the
colleges were near perfect with their performances - the vocals,
the background music, and their on-stage demeanour. Students
of MES Abasaheb Garware College of Commerce were worth noting
for their excellent performance. Listening to Ek chatur naar
karke shringar, it seriously looked as if, the movie Padosan
was being enacted all over again sans the original characters!
The music
score was pumped up to a high, with their expressions. Then
followed the Sinhagad College of Engineering, where each of
the student looked confident and smiles passed between each
other only proved this. Jaaneman jaaneman had quite a few
hands clapping and Tum se mil ke, the forever young song was
heard by a pindrop silence audience.
Despite
all the music and instruments creating the clamour, H.V Desai
College of Arts, Science and Commerce was a note apart. They
didn't invade the stage with banjos or guitars. A humble tabla
and a few singers with excellent voices. Every soul in the
audience listened with awe, to a bunch of girls who sang a
song on national integration in eight different languages,
signing off with A.R Rehman's Bharat humko jaan se pyaara
hai.
Says Nagendra
Pai, brand manager, Castrol (two-wheelers), ``Pepsi Verve
2001 is a huge festival and we would like to be associated
with it. Saaz is a crowd puller and that's why we have chosen
to sponsor this event. We plan to have a lot of activities
during the festival like contests, free give aways and other
such things.'' Indeed quite a crowd puller. There were goof
ups on stage; a few of which are beyond these collegians control.
But all of it comes in a package of getting to the top. Castrol
Saaz, was just one such medium that brings forth the best
in them. Cheers!
