Ajit Panja, the best actor

KOLKATA: Union Minister of state for external affairs Ajit Panja has won the Best Stage Actor award for Bengali play 'Nati Binodini' at the 'Kalakar Awards 2000'.

Bollywood stars Akshay Khanna and Rani Mukherjee were adjudged Best Actor and Best Actress in the Cinema Category. 'Kahona Payar Hai' and 'Sasur Bari Jindabad' won the best film awards in Hindi and Bengali. J P Dutta bagged the Best Director award in Hindi for 'Refugee' and Aparna Sen for her Bengali film 'Paromitar Ekdin'.

Akshay Khanna won the award for 'Taal' and Rani Mukherjee for 'Har Dil Jo Payar Karega'.

Prasenjit and Rituparna won the Best Actor and Best Actress awards in Bengali for 'Sasur Bari Jindabad'.

The awards were presented today at the Science City Auditorium here.

Udit Narayan won the Best Playback Singer award, Bappi Lahiri and Parvati Khan were awarded for their contribution to music and Swapna Mukherjee and Srikanta Acharya won the Best Audio Album award.

'Khubsorat Bahu' was adjudged the Best Stage Drama. Sima Mukhopadhyay won the Best Stage Director.

'Ekak Dashak Shatak' was given the Best Bengali Television Serial prize and Biresh Chatterjee was named Best Director for 'Nayantara' and Tapas Paul for his role in 'Mama Bhagne'.

Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Manoj Kumar, Vinod Khanna, Supriya Devi and comedian Jagdeep for their outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.

Kalakar awards were jointly organised by Cine Advance, ATN World, and Kolkata Cultural City of Lions Club International in association with the Asian Age. UNI.
