PROFILE OF JURY MEMBERS

SHAKTI SAMANTA
(Jury Chairperson):

The president of Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) and a former chairman of CBFC is a respectable filmmaker in his own right. As an industry leader and key spokesman, he has led several delegations to the Government of India taking up filmdom’s problems. Samanta, a veteran of many successful Hindi and Bengali films in his 40-year stint, has films like Howrah Bridge, An Evening In Paris, Anuraag, China Town, Kati Patang, Aradhana and Barsaat Ki Raat against his name.


RAMESH SIPPY:

The name instantly reminds one of Sholay, the film that created box-office history in 1975. The film is still a rage whenever released in theatres or telecast on the satellite channels. Sippy has many successful films like Andaaz, Seeta Aur Geeta, Saagar, Shakti and Brashtachar to his credit in a career spanning over 30 years. He is also one among the few filmmakers who dabbled with the small screen in its early days and tasted success with the epoch-making Buniyaad.

NARINDER SINGH:

An experienced sound recordist, Narinder Singh, is a product of FTII. The gold medalist from the premier Institute has worked with some prominent filmmakers like Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen and Gulzar. He is still a name to reckon with in the industry for his precision in the field of sound recording.


RANJAN BOSE:

An active member of The Film Writers Association, Bose is also credited for writing the stories of many of the 70s and 80s hits. He has also been on the National Awards jury.

BASU CHATTERJEE:

He belongs to a different school of filmmaking and his films were popular with the critics and masses alike. Basu is still a known figure in the festival circuits and abroad for his meaningful films, which were entertaining but at the same time, different from the routine.


NEETA KAPOOR:

One of the most popular actresses of the 70s and 80s, Neeta Kapoor, bid adieu to acting after her marriage with Rishi Kapoor. Known as Neetu Singh prior to her marriage to Rishi Kapoor, Neeta keeps herself abreast with the happenings in the industry and is all set to make a mark on the small screen along with Rishi.

SUBHASH SAIGAL:

A gold medalist from the FTII, Saigal, is a leading movie editor, with a number of films to his credit in the last 25 years. He also directed the film, Pyar Koi Khel Nahin, and another film is now on the anvil.


NADIRA RAJ BABBAR:

A leading theatre personality, Nadira infused fresh life into Hindi theatre in Mumbai and founded her own group Ekjute after a brief stint at the National School of Drama. She has also written scripts for films lile Ab Aayega Mazaa, Karam Yodha and Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro. Her recent plays, Dayaram Ki Diary, Sakhubhai and Begum Jaan have been well-received.

BOBBY KHAN:

A leading choreographer, Khan has composed dance steps for many films in association with his brother Ahmed Khan and independently too. He is also a regular feature on stage shows abroad. Now he is all set to turn director.

KULBHUSHAN GUPTA:

Having started off as a journalist with a leading Delhi newspaper, Gupta shifted to advertising. His interest in films brought him to Bombay to join his uncle Ved Rahi as production controller. He also worked as a publicity consultant for many big names of the industry before turning a producer with God And Gun and Pardesi Babu. His Vidroh with Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon in the lead is due for release shortly.

DR SATISH BHATNAGAR:

He started his career with BBC London before being inducted as a script writer by Guru Dutt. He has written many successful films for Prakash Mehra and Narinder Bedi. He is currently busy with a project for BR Chopra.


SURJEET CHASER:

He is one of the leading action co-ordinators who is known for creating daring and dangerous stunts on screen. He has since turned independent action director. He owe the nickname, Chaser, to Amitabh Bachchan.


PRAMOD MITTAL:

The award winning cinematographer started his career with Subhash Ghai and went on to capture the limelight with many mainstream films. Presently, he run his own concern dealing with camera and related equipment. He is also all set to capture the magic with game show Chappar Phad Ke featuring Govinda.
