Govt planning to use media channels for education

Govt planning to use media channels for education
Information and Broadcasting Ministry in coordination with Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry is working out to find out modalities for use of media and entertainment industry for telecasting educational programmes even at school level.

This was stated by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Ramesh Bais while addressing a seminar on ‘Media and Entertainment’.

Efforts are on to use the medium for educational programmes which will not only be useful for UGC and Open Universities but also for schools and other educational institutions, Minister said, according to an official release.

Highlighting the recent initiatives taken by government in broadcasting sector, Bais said opening up of DTH and privatisation of FM channels would enable people to have wider access to entertainment and information.

Bais said that there were nearly 76 channels available and there would be an estimated increase to five to seven per cent every year.

In the coming days, the cables will not only be used for television and Internet but for providing telephone connections that will increase the tele-density of the country, he said.
