Labour
laws still apply: Swaraj
By MSM Desai
Sushma Swaraj, minister for information and broadcasting has
assured a delegation of All India Film Employees Confederation
that the labour laws will remain applicable to cinema workers.
She assured the delegation that the government notification
recognising the entertainment industry as an industrial outfit
will make no difference to the labour laws.
Swaraj was informed that while the Film Federation of India
represented producers, distributors, exhibitors and other
fields, the artistes, technicians and other craft members
belonged to the respective craft associations under the aegis
of the confederation.Rumour had been afloat that labour legislations
would not be applicable following the notification issued
under Section 2 (C) (XVII) of the Industrial Development Bank
of India Act, 1964, which has now been cleared after the meeting
with the minister on December 6.
