Screen - The Business of entertainment

The dry spell continues
It is certain that the release of Chori Chori Chupke Chupke is postponed indefinitely, unless the court intervenes. All preparations made by distributors and exhibitors and the high profile pre-release publicity has gone waste. However, Raja Ko Rani Se Pyar Ho Gaya and Sunny Deol starrer Champion are releasing this week and there seems to be no major opposition for these two films. Two small-budget films and one dubbed film releasing this week are Jallad No.1, Poonam Ki Raat and Trishakti(dub).

The collections continue to be on a low key due to Ramzan. None of the films has done well at the box-office.

Ghaath (1st week):
Mumbai 34 per cent
Delhi 31 per cent
Calcutta 34 per cent
Hyderabad 35 per cent
Aurangabad 33 per cent
Sholapur 30 per cent
Jaipur 26 per cent

Bhai Thakur (1st week)
Mumbai 23 per cent

Shareef Badmash (1st week)
Mumbai 18 per cent

Snip (1st week)
Mumbai 15 per cent

Bond No.1 (dub) (1st week)
Mumbai 13 per cent

Gaja Gamini (2nd week)
Mumbai 35 per cent

Kurukshetra (5th week)
Mumbai 44 per cent
Hyderabad 33 per cent

Mohabbatein (7th week)
Mumbai 62 per cent
Calcutta 52 per cent
Allahabad 33 per cent
Hyderabad 62 per cent

Mission Kashmir (7th week)

Distributors and exhibitors were gearing up for a token strike on December 20 all over Maharasthra to protest against the cable piracy of films.
