Milk & Honey cutting in with Blade 2 prod’n

L.A.- and Prague-based production outfit Milk & Honey has landed New Line Cinema’s Blade 2.

The $55 million Wesley Snipes movie will begin pre-production in Prague after Thanksgiving and will commence a four-month, 85-day shoot at the end of February.

One of the biggest-budget productions to hit Prague, it will bring in production people and drop an estimated $10 million-$15 million locally.
Action pic also means good news for Milk & Honey’s new Prague Studios, which will be booked through July with ABC’s Anne Frank miniseries and Blade 2.

Milk & Honey moved into film production via the miniseries route a year ago. Blade 2 is its first international feature film to shoot in Prague.

With Blade 2 confirmed, Prague will see three high-profile action films shooting during the winter and spring months. Hart’s War and Bourne Identity, with Matt Damon and Franke Potente, are already deep into pre-production. Prague should see a minimum of $30 million in spending on the three movies. And that may not be all. The Jerry Bruckheimer film Black Sheep has also been touted for the city.

The trend moves Prague out of the period locations-only category, building on the groundwork set by last year’s sci-fi mini Dune and Hallmark’s Asian-theme Monkey King. It also should go a ways toward putting to rest any lingering anti-Prague sentiment left over from the Tom Cruise- Mission Impossible brouhaha of six year ago..
