Asha
Bhosle wows Mumbai

Scores
of hands clapped in unison and hundreds more swayed in a magnetic
trance as the mellifluous voice of the Indian diva Asha Bhosle
filled the air, as belted out her evergreen number Dum Maro
Dum and the inimitable Monica O my darling at Goregaon Police
Grounds, in Mumbai last week.
Performing before an estimated audience of 7000, Asha crooned
her popular numbers in an evening full of excitement and nostalgia.
The three-hour live performance which saw Govinda
jiving with the prima donna on stage, witnessed Lucky Ali,
Babul Supriyo, Leslie Lewis and Sivamani giving her company
with fleeting appearances by film actress Kajol and dancing
sensation of yesteryears, Helen, on stage.
Set against a massive set designed by Nitin Desai, the performance
was made colourful by dances choreographed by Ahmed Khan and
music coordinated by Surinder Sodi.
Asha not only performed old time favourites but also crooned
peppy pop numbers from her repertoire and reinforced widely
held belief that she remains the greatest pop sensation in
the performance. She also regaled the audience with anecdotes
from her long career in the film industry and personal life.
