Guidelines
on DTH to be issued within a few days
TheGuidelines
under the recently-announced policy relating to setting up
direct-to-home (DTH) television platforms are expected in
a few days, Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj
has said.
Proper care had been taken to ensure that cross-media holding
and foreign direct investment did not exceed 20 per cent,
she told newspersons and emphasised that the equity cap was
sectoral and would remain the same irrespective of the number
of foreign partners.
She also said there was no contradiction between the DTH policy
announced by her and the policy for setting up uplinking TV
platforms announced earlier by her predecessor Arun Jaitley.
The equity cap had been maintained at 49 per cent inclusive
of non-resident Indians, foreign institutional investment
and overseas corporate bodies.
Meanwhile, Swaraj announced that the next meeting on November
19, of the consultative committee of members of parliament
attached to her ministry would discuss issues related to cable
and satellite television. There would be a presentation about
the cable addressibility system which can be installed at
the residence of the consumer and will help in parental control,
give greater choice, and ensure better check on viewership
ratings. She also said it was not expensive as the price of
the box will be paid to the cable operator in installments
along with his monthly fees.
