CNN to launch two made in India programmes

CNN is taking a leap towards regionalisation in India by launching two programmes, which will be produced by India’s leading entertainment company, UTV Entertainment Inc, providing viewers with the latest stories on technology, lifestyle and fashion in this sub-continent.

CNN is making its debut by launching CNN indiadotcom and Style South Asia for the viewers of South Asia, both 30 minute programmes. “It will be a major step towards regionalisation that we are committed to,” said Rena Golden, Vice President and General Manager of CNN International.

CNN indiadotcom will be presented by noted anchor Anish Trivedi and will be dedicated to covering every aspect of information technology. The weekly show will look at the information technology (IT) industry and how it affects both corporate and personal lives and bring viewers expert opinions, interviews and the latest news on this rapidly growing industry.

Style South Asia will be hosted by noted danseuse Mallika Sarabhai. Showcasing the best of lifestyle, art, architecture, food, fashion and personalities from India and across the sub-continent, this new show will potray the trends as they swoop the region, while, at the same time looking at heritage and culture to offer CNN’s South Asia viewers a fashionable window to lifestyle in the region.

“We are committed to offer news and information programming that is relevant to our viewers. When we made the strategic step to introduce a CNN channel for South Asia in July, it meant that we would be able to add targetted programming for the important audiences in this region and we are now now fulfilling the commitment,” she said.

Golden said during a press conference that the new locally produced shows — CNN’s first time in Asia — will be an exciting new addition to the prime time programming line up already existing on CNN International. “This will take us closer to the audiences,” she added. Bill Baggitt, Vice President and Managing Editor, CNN International (Asia-Pacific) said, “UTV is synonymous with quality programming and their newly-produced technology and style shows will complement CNN’s news and feature programmes for our audiences in South Asia.”
