Zeenext.com introduces video and voice mail services

Zee Group’s Internet portal, zeenext.com has introduced Video Mail services for the first time in India. This follows the launch by zeenext. com, of the Voice Mail service in late September.

With both services now available, the e-mail that you send from zeenext.com will no longer be simple text. Instead you can send and receive voice/video messages from family and friends.

To make voice and video mail a practical reality under the current bandwidth restrictions in India, zeenext.com is using a unique proprietary compression software. This compression software enables the compression of audio and video files with subsequent downloading and decompression at a rate up to 15 times faster than the MP3 format. Zeenext.com is thus able to feature moving images with audio with little or no increase in the bandwidth currently requires for text and graphics.

Traditionally, an uncompressed recording of one second of audio on regular available recoding formats takes between 8-175 Kilobytes per second, whereas the new technology used here takes approximately 1K for a second of audio recording.
