Haa Gandh Tujha..

Spreading the ghazal aroma
The release of the Marathi ghazal album Haa Gandh Tujha, at the hands of famous ghazal singer and composer Jagjit Singh, on the night of November 2, turned out to be a memorable occasion. Well-known music personalities like singer Rani Verma, composer-singer Vijay More and singer Suresh Wadkar contributed to spread the ghazal aroma to the four corners of the Shivaji Mandir auditorium in Dadar, Mumbai, where the function was held. The live concert in which the trio participated drew spontaneous appreciation from music lovers who had packed the hall.

The programme was conceived and arranged by Sunil Salgaonkar, of Paplos Music, which has brought out the album containing eight ghazals in Marathi, written by Chandrashekhar Sanekar and rendered by Suresh Wadkar. The singer rendered the title piece Hey phool tujhe, haa gandh tujha and Mee laagalo bolaayla, which were the highlight of the function. This is the first album for which More has composed music.

At the release function, Singh complimented Paplos Music, Salgaonkar and Wadkar for bringing out an audio of rare musical charm at a time when music atmosphere was getting polluted. He said that music today, instead of being ear-pleasing, was becoming more and more visual-oriented.In a brief speech, Wadkar spoke in favour of word-dominated music.Prominent among those present were composer Shridhar Phadke and ghazal researcher Arunoday Bhatkar. Sandip Kokol, who was the compere, enlivened the programme with on-the-spot interviews with all those connected with the ghazal album.
