Diwali releases dela
By Our Correspondent
CHENNAI: Tamil films due for release in Diwali were delayed
for an unusual reason: the Chennai labs did not have enough
raw material to make the prints, owing to the extraordinary
demand from Mumbai for an increased number of prints for Mission
Kashmir and Mohabbatein.
To make matters worse, the local dealer of the raw materials
was recently raided by the Income Tax sleuths, due to which
he could not buy extra stock or release the money for fresh
purchases from the international market.
Among the stalled Diwali releases are Thenali (the Kamal Hassan
starrer), Vanavil, with Arjun in the lead role, and Priyamanavallay
featuring Vijay as hero. These films were completed well in
advance, and all advancements were made to the labs to facilitate
their Diwali release.
Only three films, Kannugu Kannagake (the Murali starrer),
Seenu (the Karthik starrer) and Palayathu Amman were released
on time for the festive occasion. The films of Prabhu and
Prasanth also scheduled for release were postponed.
