Sushma
remarks anger FWICE
The Federation of Western India cine Employees has condemned
the statement made by Sushma Swaraj, Minister for Information
and Broadcasting, that while all the benefits will be made
available to the film world, it has been saved from the mandatory
industrial issues like provident fund and gratuity.
Madhusudan, president of FWICE, said in a statement that the
general council of FWICE takes strong objection to such a
statement coming from a member of the union cabinet for making
anti-labour statements in public.
FWICE notes with dismay the implication that technicians,
artistes and other craftsmen are not part of the film world.
The workers have been agitating for the last 27 years for
industrial status to be given to the film industry in the
hope that it will bring some regulations to the film industry
and protect film workers from laws of jungle. Sushma Swaraj
has cruelly and thoughtlessly dashed all expectations,
he added.
