Seagal gearing up for Bollywood Music Awards
Hollywood actor Steven Seagal has joined the board of Bollywood
Group, Inc. which sponsors the Bollywood Movie Awards, the
Music Awards, and Fashion Awards. Seagal was chosen because
he believes in the values and culture of both, East and West.
Seagal has to his credit films like Above The Law, Hard To
Kill, Marked For Death, Under Siege and Out For Justice. He
was the first to produce and star in a film with an environmental
theme On Deadly Ground. He joined a Japanese dojo (a martial
school) in California teaching Aikido, the most
difficult of the martial arts, at the age of seven, and earned
his 7th degree Black Belt. A decade later, he founded his
own Aikido School in Japan, the first and only foreigner to
do so. Today, the school has over 2000 students.
The actor is also an accomplished musician and guitarist who
has composed his own scores and sung before live audiences.
Recently, he performed at a Seoul charity event for children
with Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey. He has also performed
with Vince Gill, John Burton, Taj Mahal and other bands. He
is now in the process of finishing an album, which includes
guest appearances by Bonnie Rait and Elton John.
Seagal is a follower of His Holiness Penor Rimpoche who is
the Third Drubwang Padma Norbu of Tibet.
The Bollywood Music Awards is scheduled to be held on November
12, 2000, and the Fashion Awards and Movie Awards will be
held on April 27 and 28, 2001. Seagal plans to play an active
role in these events and in the activities of the Bollywood
Group. This is the first time a Hollywood personality is on
the board of a media company with a focus towards South Asia.
