Chori Chori

Romance at Luni Fort

Cut to Luni Fort, 45 km from Jodhpur, the city of palaces and forts, ideal backdrop for a film laced with romance and passions....Is it the right number? Rani Mukerji at the location of Chori Chori

PRODUCERS Raju Narula and Lalit ‘Sweety’ Kapoor are busy wrapping up the initial schedule of their latest venture, Chori Chori, being directed by Milan Luthria of Kachche Dhaage fame. The entire crew embarks on the fort at dusk and shoots till the wee hours of the morning. And this has been the ritual during the entire fortnight.

The spacious lush green lawns surrounding the historic Luni Fort is the scene of action for a song picturisation which introduces Rani Mukerji. Milan alongwith his choreographer Raju Khan and cinematographer Manmohan Singh are looking into the nitty-gritties in the song being picturised about Rani’s childhood friend.Thinking of how to make you dance! Choreographer Raju Khan in a pensive mood alongwith Rani Mukerjie at the Luni Fort.

The film also stars Ajay Devgan but his presence is not warranted during the schedule as the song only features Rani along with a bevy of beauties dancing happily among the baraatees. A flower bedecked car with the groom enters the lawn of the fort and the starlit sky is lighted by colourful fireworks. The crowd outside the fort is elated with the fireworks as though the festival of lights has already arrived. The Luni Fort is of remarkable significance for filmdom. It is at this same fort that successful films like Rajshri’s Hum Saath Saath Hain and JP Dutta’s Border were shot.
You’ll be the number one soon! Director Milan Luthria and Rani Mukerji at the location.
Director Milan Luthria is very enthusiastic about the film, though he refrains from divulging any crucial details about the storyline. He feels it is too premature to talk about the story.

But he is quick to add that Chori Chori is very different in every sense from his earlier film and he has even chosen a very different crew for this film. This is evident with the presence of ace cameraman Manmohan Singh. “Nobody can be better than Manmohan Singh for a romantic film like this,” says Luthria. The young director assisted Mahesh Bhatt for four years in the making of 11 films and draws inspiration from Mahesh’s dedication and passion.

Incidentally, this film featured Kareena Kapoor in the lead alongwith Ajay It’s all in `his’ hands! Director Milan Luthria and producer Lalit Kapoor.Devgan when it was launched but she has since been replaced by Rani Mukerji. “Actually, Kareena got busy after Refugee and could not spare us any dates. We parted ways amicably. I hope to work with her some time soon,” says Luthria.

Producers Raju Narula and Lalit Kapoor are an experienced lot. Raju has made films like Elaan, Gundaraaj, Udaan and Aflatoon, while Lalit has made films like Deewana, Pyar Ka Mandir and Pyar Ka Devta. Lalit reveals that after this schedule the action will shift to Darjeeling and Shimla and later to Switzerland for the song picturisations. He also added that the film will be completed by June, 2001 and be released in time for next Diwali. Raju Narula reveals that one more heroine will be added for “star value” but declines to reveal her identity.
