Telugu film industry expresses its solidarity

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu assured the industry delegation that he would try his best to secure the release of the legendary Kannada actor Dr. Rajkumar from the captivity of the forest brigand Veerappan. The rally was organised by the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce with the co-operation of Movie Artiste’s Association, Film Employee’s Federation and Director’s Association. Most of the bigwigs of the industry turned up at Ravindra Bharathi auditorium.

As a sign of solidarity, shootings and muhurats of Telugu films commenced only after 10 am as as to have cent percent participation in the rally. Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Dr D Rama Naidu, K Raghavendra Rao, Jagapati Babu, Saikumar and Srihari were some of the bigwigs who attended the rally. Due to assembly proceedings, the chief minister met the two-member delegation in the afternoon and received the memorandum.

Later expressing his familiarity with Dr. Rajkumar, he said he would send copies of the memorandum to the Central Government and also to Government of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The industry also expressed its full co-operation in every manner to secure the veteran actor’s safe release.

10-day French film festival in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Film Club and Alliance Francaise De Hyderabad are jointly organising a festival of ‘New French Cinema’ from August 21 to 30. The eleven films being screened were made between 1991 to 1998 and it also showcases the new trends in French cinema currently. Veteran film actor Gummadi Venkateswar Rao was the chief guest at the inaugural function and films like A Family Affair, White Lies, For Sale and The Life of Jesus are some of the films being screened at the festival.

Vijaykant unites artistes to pay off Rs. 4 crore debt

Vijaykant, the president of the South India Artiste’s Association, took the intiative to get all the film artistes to come for a meeting and find a way to solve the problem of Rs. 4 crore debt that the association acquired over the years and during the tenure of Radha Ram, the previous president. The debts and the interest that it has to pay has to be raised. It was decided on many things like star nites to raise funds, individual contributions (Vijaykant has already donated Rs. 5 lakhs and actor Alex Rs. 1 lakh to the association) were some of the ideas that were generated. The State government is likely to give Rs. 1.5 crore as aid to the association and bail out the organisation.
