Studio board takes offence at probe
By Shyamhari Chakra

BHUBANESWAR: Irked by the industries department’s probe into the affairs of Kalinga Studios Limited, a subsidiary of Orissa Film development Corporation (OFDC), its board of directors has urged chief minister Naveen Patnaik to dissolve the board itself.
A delegation of the board members will soon meet Patnaik, speaker of the state assembly, Sarat Kar, and minister for industries, KV Singh Deo to express their resentment.
The board, which met here recently under chairmanship of the CMD of Kalinga Studios, NK Sundaray, maintained that the laws laid down in the memorandum of articles of association of the company have been thrown to the winds and the department has no legal right to order such a probe without consulting its members, who are nominated by the government itself.
“We are for transparency and welcome any inquiry into the functioning of the studios. But we are sorry to say that all members of the board were kept in the dark about the probe,” said well-known Oriya film stars Uttam Mohanty and Mohammed Mohsin, both members of the board.
They further said the members ought to have been consulted before the probe was ordered.
“There is a deliberate attempt to defame Kalinga Studios by some vested interest groups,” maintained eminent film producer Sarada Prasanna Naik, also a member of the board. The one-man inquiry committee headed by additional secretary in the industries department T Ramachandru, had recently submitted its report to the government.
