Soft porn dominates Malayalam b-o

By Our Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The first half of the year shows that with 30 Malayalam films released only five have managed to scrape through at the box-office and one film is termed a mega hit while soft porn films have all been sucessful, setting a new trend in Malayalam cinema.
Out of 30 films released, only Narsimham starring Mohan Lal and directed by Shaji Kailas is a big hit toppling the earlier box office records. A soft porn film Kinnarathumbikal is the next biggest hit and it set in motion the soft porn wave, the star attraction being heroine Shakkeela, who is now the most sought after artiste in Kerala filmdom.
Satyan Anthicad’s Kochu Kochu Santoshangal, Vinayan’s Deivathinte Makan, Lohitadas’ Arayannangalude Vedu are the other films that fared well at the box office.
With 25 films bombing at the box-office the film industry is caught in a major crisis. Mammootty had a solo hit in Arayannangalude Veedu while Mohan Lal had a mega hit in Narasimham and two flops, in the Fazil-directed Life is Beautiful and Shradha. Suresh Gopi the action Superstar had four releases, of which Satyameva Jayate did well. Jayaram had two releases and he was lucky to have both of them do average business, Kochu Kochu Santoshangal and Deivathinte Makan being the two films that kept up his position in the industry.
