GUJARAT STATE AWARDS: ANNOUNCED Dariya Chhoru is best film

In the Gujarat State Film Awards for 1999-2000 announced in Gandhinagar on the eve of Independence Day, Bipin Shah’s Dariya Chhoru was named the best Gujarati film of the year. It has also won six other awards. The second best film award has gone to Manisha Mashru’s Deraani Jethaani, which has also picked up eight other awards. In all 27 feature films were entered for the state awards.
The best actor award is shared by JD Majithia (Dariya Chhoru) and Upendra Trivedi(Maa Baap Ne Bhulsho Nahin). The best actress award is also shared by Shefali Chhaya(Dariya Chhoru) and Pinky Parikh (Man Moti Ne Kaach). Vipul Shah has been named the best director for Dariya Chhoru, while the best music director award has been bagged by Gourang Vyas for Deraani Jethaani. Aarti Patel’s Moti Na Chok Re Sapna Ma Deetha gets a consolation award (best film). The best cinematography award goes to Indrajit Bansal (Dariya Chhoru). The best story award is shared by Harin Thakar (Deraani Jethaani) and Varsha Adalaja (Moti Na Chok..). The best playback singers are Soli Kapadia (male) and Anuradha Paudwal (female). The best child artiste award goes to Abhijeet (Deraani Jethaani).
Ashwin Vyas’ The Mineral Wealth of Gujarat was named the best documentary, while J Jilka’s Our Wealth, Legacy: Tribal Folk Dances was adjudged the second best documentary.
