BABY
BOY FOR DOUGLAS, ZETA-JONES
Michael
Douglas and his fiancee Catherine Zeta-Jones became the proud
parents of a baby boy. Dylan Michael Douglas was born at Cedars-Sinai
Medical Centre, near Beverly Hills. The baby weighed in at
seven pounds and seven ounces.
The baby
is the first for 30-year-old Welsh actress Zeta-Jones. Douglas,
55, has an adult son, Cameron, from his first marriage to
Diandra Douglas. Michael Douglas and Zeta-Jones met at the
Deauville Film Festival in France, in August 1998, began dating
in March 1999, and got engaged on New Years Eve. No
date has been set for their marriage. Zeta-Jones film
credits include Entrapment and The Mask Of Zorro. Douglas
recent credits include A Perfect Murder and Wonder Boys.
CHAN
IN JERRY LEWIS REMAKE
MGM
is in advanced talks with Jackie Chan to co-star in an update
of the 1960 Jerry Lewis comedy The Bellboy. The original film
follows a bellboy (Lewis), as he undergoes a number of zany
misadventures at Miamis Fountainbleau Hotel. With Chan
set to share top billing, it appears the remake will depart
quite a bit from the original. Details of the co-star have
not been announced. Lewis, who owns the remake rights, will
be a producer on the project as well. The veteran comic also
serves as an executive producer of Nutty Professor II: The
Klumps, based on his 1963 movie The Nutty Professor.
CULKIN AND WIFE SPLIT
Macaulay
Culkin, the child star of the 1990 film Home Alone, and his
actress wife, Rachel Miner, have separated after two years
of marriage. Culkin, 19, met Miner, 20, in 1997, at the Professional
Childrens School in New York, and they married the following
June, when both were just 17 years old. The spokesperson for
Culkin said it was a temporary separation and
declined to reveal whether the couple were contemplating divorce.
Once
the hottest child actor in Hollywood, Culkin starred in the
original 1990 Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York
in 1992, as well as My Girl in 1991, before taking several
roles in less successful films, including The Good Son in
1993, and Getting Even With Dad and Richie Rich, both in 1994.
His career suffered after he and his six siblings became embroiled
in a custody dispute between his father, Christopher Kit
Culkin, and his mother, Patricia Brentrup.
Miner
had co-starred in a Broadway production of The Diary Of Anne
Frank, playing Annes older sister.
...AND SO DO HUNT AND AZARIA
Another
actor couple who have split are Academy Award-winning actress
Helen Hunt and her husband Hank Azaria. They have been separated
for several months, but are not contemplating divorce. Their
publicist insisted theyre still very good friends
and that the situation is amicable.
Hunt,
37, and Azaria, 36, dated for nearly five years before tying
the knot in a small, private ceremony at their Los Angeles
home, in July 1999. Hunt gained fame and several Emmys starring
opposite Paul Reiser on the popular NBC sitcom Mad About You,
which wrapped its seventh and final season last May. For several
seasons, Azaria played a recurring role on the show as Nat
Ostertag, the affable but addled dog-walker who took care
of the couples pooch, Murray.
Hunt
won a Best Actress Oscar for her role as a waitress who falls
for Jack Nicholson in the 1997 romantic comedy As Good As
It Gets, and recently signed to star in Woody Allens
next film. She also has four films set for release between
October and December Pay It Forward with Kevin Spacey
and Haley Joel Osment, the Robert Altman film Dr. T. And The
Women, Castaways with Tom Hanks, and What Women Want, co-starring
Mel Gibson.
Azaria recently received an Emmy nomination for his role opposite
Jack Lemmon in Oprah Winfrey Presents: Tuesdays With Morrie,
a TV movie on ABC. He also is known as the voice of several
characters on the animated Fox hit The Simpsons. Azarias
film credits also include the 1998 remake of Godzilla, Grosse
Pointe Blank, The Birdcage and Quiz Show.
SCHNEIDERS ANIMAL INSTINCTS
Rob
Schneider, who starred as a male prostitute in the surprise
hit Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, is being paid a low seven-figure
sum to play a man whose internal organs have been replaced
with those of various animals. The film titled Animal has
been greenlit for an October 1 start, and a summer 2001 release.
Schneiders
character displays the crude attributes of the critters, usually
at the most inopportune times. The project was in development
at Disney, but has been taken over by the studios former
chairman, Joe Roth, and his nascent production company, Revolution
Studios.
Animal
will be executive produced by actor Adam Sandler and his producing
partner Jack Giarraputo. The duo also executive produced Deuce
Bigalow, which grossed more than $60 million domestically.
