Malayalam
channel Kairali to be launched today
One more private satellite television channel in Malayalam,
Kairali, will go on air from today in Kerala. The channel,
originally christened Malayalam, was renamed as Kairali.
Kairali is the third satellite television channel in Malayalam
and a venture of the newly floated public limited company
Malayalam Communications Limited. It will be a 24-hour channel.
Malayalam Communications Executive Director P. A. Siddhartha
Menon told newsmen that the channel could be viewed from all
parts of India, the West Asian countries and the Gulf. He
said more than 3,000 artistes would participate in the megainaugural
function.
Asked about reports that the channel was being floated with
the full involvement of the CPI(M) Kerala unit, Menon said
the channel was floated with the money mobilised from 200,000
shareholders.
While Malayalam superstar Mammootty is the chairman of Malayalam
Communications, filmstar Mohanlal is one of the 12 directors
of the governing board. l
