Modi Entertainment inks deal for distributing DD’s sports channel
Modi Entertainment Network (MEN) has signed an agreement with Doordarshan to distribute and monitor Doordarshan’s Sports Channel, which will soon be made a pay channel. This agreement is a sequel to the agreement already reached between MEN and DD on promotion and monitoring of DD1, DD2, DD News and all of DD’s regional services.

Doordarshan has rights to major international and national sports events, which are telecast on the sports channel. DD officials are upbeat about this venture. R.R. Shah, CEO of Prasar Bharati said, "The basic philosophy driving this approach was to offer sports lovers better viewing pleasure and a value for money proposition, by using the money generated as a pay channel to get quality international programmes of high interest value."

Commenting on the agreement, L. K. Modi, director, MEN, said that the main reason behind this venture is that Doordarshan’s Sports Channel is the only National Sports Channel today with exclusive rights to several international and national events that make it even more watchable.

According to Ajay Nijhawan, CEO, MEN, "this deal only reconfirms the faith of these channels in MEN, a stand-alone company whose core business is distribution".
