HBO ties up with Hollywood majors for more movies
Home Box Office has joined hands with major Hollywood studios like Sony Pictures Entertainment (Columbia /Tristar), Paramount Pictures and Universal Studio, so that movies from these big studios can also be aired on HBO channel, which is seen in South Asia. This is in addition to the films of Time Warner Entertainment, which is the promoters of the movie channel.

HBO recently announced the launching of a joint venture company, HBO South Asia, which is an equal joint venture between Columbia Tristar, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios and Time Warner. In the joint venture company, which will be based in Singapore, Time Warner will have 25 per cent stake.

Speaking to the press in New Delhi, HBO Asia President Daniel C Murrell said, "Through this initiative, we have tried to enhance the ordinary look of our channel. With more than 70 movies every month and 52 movie premiers on HBO on Saturday nights, we think the channel has much to look forward to."
Turner International India will continue to handle the distribution of HBO in India. The company is now expected to be more aggressive on the advertising and sales front. Anshuman Mishra of Turner International India said that the company was planning to enter tie ups with major brand and also to create a small team of people for marketing and sales of HBO. Apart from advertising in print and electronic media we would be doing the promotions of HBO with FMCG companies.

HBO has lined up superhit movies like The Mask of Zorro, Forest Gump, My Best Friend’s Wedding, The River Wild, Mission Impossible, Godzilla, The Truman Show. As of now, the channel has no plans to dub the movies in Hindi or any other Indian language.
