Passion
for singing
Thanks
to his long tresses and huge body frame, you get an impression
that Vispi probably is an aspiring WWF wrestler. But you realise
that appearances are often deceptive when he makes you listen
to the title track of his forthcoming pop album Teri Marzi.
He is not an accomplished singer, considering that he is still
a beginner as far as professional singing is concerned. But
his voice has potential and he renders pop songs like several
singers who have become celebrities overnight in the pop arena
in the past few years. Its the question of time,
the right break and adequate promotion, Vispi says.
Though he did train himself in body-building and weight-lifting,
Vispi says singing has been his hobby, love and passion which
he has pursued since his childhood. He started singing at
the age of six without any formal training because he says
he is a born singer. At the age of 13 he had participated
in the All India Open Singing Competition, which was judged
by late playback singer Mukesh where he won the first prize.
That was an inspiration for Vispi to take up singing as a
career.
But while
Vispi wanted to be a professional singer, his parents were
totally against it. And Vispi had no choice but to put his
dream on hold. He joined an airline and his job took him to
Iran, USA and UK where he gave live performances. On his return
to India, he recorded an album of old Hindi film songs in
his voice and visited T-Series, without any result. He thought
of participating in Sa Re Ga Ma and Meri Awaz Suno and sent
his demo cassettes, but didnt hear from the makers of
these programmes.
Thats
when he decided to record a pop album at his own cost. And
the result was Jab Se which was released by Pen Audio in November
last year and which, Vispi says, got average response. But
since his idea was to have one album in a year, Vispi started
working on his second album four months ago.
While
he says Jab Se was a job in haste and therefore a little amateurish
attempt, for Teri Marzi he decided to work with professionals.
Written by Shyam Anuragi and composed by Charles Srinivasan,
Teri Marzi has eight pop numbers, whose tempo ranges from
slow, medium-fast to fast. Says Vispi, Its different
and full of symphony and I have done my best. The rest is
destiny.
