Amitabh Bachchan to promote DD’s social service messages

Contrary to encouraging participants to go for at least one crore in the extremely popular Kaun Banega Crorepati on Star Plus, Amitabh Bachchan will ask the viewers of Doordarshan to lead normal and sober lives, one within reasonable limits.

Amitabh Bachchan will be doing the community services messages till such time as Doordarshan realises its dues worth Rs. 3 crore from him.

It is interesting to note that Kaun Banega Crorepati on Star Plus has brought hopes in some quarters of Doordarshan that Bachchan will be able to clear his dues with the money he will get as his fee from the show.

It may be mentioned here that Doordarshan has agreed to scale down the dues of ABCL. "Now it is Rs. 20 crore," says a DD official of DD’s sales department. "DD has asked Mr. Amitabh Bachchan to pay Rs. 17 crore within one year and will adjust Rs. 3 crore on the number of times he will appear on DD’s social service campaigns."

The amount of Rs. 20 crore has been scaled down from Rs. 33 crore that was due to DD. DD officials have also sought Mumbai High Court’s help to appoint a liquidator to assess the worth of Plus Channel which owes DD a sum of Rs. 12 crore.
