Producer-director Prakash Jha's Mrityudand released with a good opening. The collection on the first day were reported to be 75 percent, and are sure to rise, especially in Mumbai where the film has been declared tax free. In fact trade pundits feel that the business would have been higher on the first day if the audience were aware of the fact that the film was tax-free, which surprisingly has not been made known to people. This hard-hitting film with a social message is expected to do well because of Madhuri Dixit's sterling performance and the director's ofcourse, the tax concessions.

Gupt completed an extraordinary first week in Mumbai with the collection as high as 96 per cent. The film which is an out-and-out entertainer, is doing well in all the major cities. The low key Govinda starrer Do Aankhen Barah Haath, which was in the making for four long years, was released with almost nil publicity. Yet the film got an average opening and if it maintainsits collections, it should have no problem in recovering its cost, feel the trade pundits. Compared to the earlier Govinda starrers, which were released after they were in the marking for a long time the response to this film at the box office is encouraging, which according to trade experts could be because of the two newly added song sequences.
