STUFF COMPLAIN

SS Gill might be taking his role as CEO, Prasar Bharti very seriously, but he has failed to take his staff into confidence. Most of them have been complaining about Gill’s ‘unreasonable restrictions’ on the staff. Since the staff cannot complain directly to the CEO, they vent their ire on the visitors, most of whom are pressfolk.

Gill has asked the staff at Mandi House to report at 9.00 am sharp everyday. Anybody who is found coming late, even by a minute, is issued a memo and an explanation is sought. Even senior deputy DGs have been issued memos recently. Says a junior level staff of DD, “The traffic of Delhi is so bad that one is likely to get stuck. Those travelling by the city’s buses, especially, are apt to come late occasionally.”

Gill has also ordered his officials not to step out of the Mandi House complex before six in the evening. Recently, a senior official in DD’s sales department who was on his way to attend a meeting in the I&B ministry, was stopped at the gate by a security man who demanded to see Gill’s written permission.

Baffled by the behaviour of security of Mandi House, the officer preferred to stay back. Most officials feel they cannot function in such an environment. “You cannot terrorise the staff to get your work done. If Gill wants to improve the workforce at DD, what he should have done was improve the inputs of the staff,” said an official.
