mr by maurice o'reilly on 2009-05-24 12:07:15.642615+05:30 killing off prabhakaran will not end the conflict rajpaksa and his cronies brag about. they have created a burning light for future generations to take up and fight the sl govt in different ways. the only way they can appease the tamils is to give them equal status as the sinhalese (what prabhakaran always stood for and fought for) and to treat them as equals in all walks of life, which unfortunately is not the case presently. it is extremely disturbing that india stood by and let the chinese supply arms to the sl govt to finish off the ltte. india is bound topay a heavy price for this as the chinese are trying to get a foothold in countries surrounding and near to india -namely bangladesh/burma/nepal/ and now sri lanka/ it is about time india realised that its pacifiist atitude is not working and to be a trifle more forceful in its relations with the aforementioned countries mentioned.

China Naval Might on the Prowl by Kenneth Jeffries on 2009-05-24 07:50:28.174194+05:30 The Sri Lankan victory over the LTTE served as a stepping stone for China's aggressive expansion of its Naval power. Chinese technicians entered into the breach when Washington like India miscalculated by withdrawing support to Colombo on human rights grounds.China is setting up highly ssensitive and very long range listening posts on the island nation and has a programme to increase its foreign aid three fold over the next five years.India remains a lame duck. The Chinese chose the election period in India to do the damage because it knew no Indian contender would consider a public statement or action on Sri Lanka. India now has to contend with discontent Tamils within and without India. Killing Prabhakaran gave birth to bigger enemies India cannot possibly surmount. Its now Pakistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri lanka that make up that noose around India's neck.

End of terrorrism by RAJ on 2009-05-23 16:48:44.057068+05:30 MANY THANKS TO SREELANKAN PRESIDENT. EVENIF THERE WERE PRESSURE FROM VARIOUS COUNTRIES , HE CONTINUED TILL THE VICTORY. IF HE WERE CAUGHT ALIVE AND BROUGHT TO INDIA FOR TRIAL, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BIG HEADACHE BECAUSE OUR CENTRAL GOVERNMENT CANOT WITHANSTAND THE PRESSURE FROM TAMILNADU AGAINST HIS TRIAL IN INDIA,. FINALLY HE WILL ALSO COME OUT AS OTHER CRIMINALS AND CONTEST IN THE COMING ELECTION. EXAMPLE. BHOOLAN DEVI. ANOTHER REASON IS THAT MOST OF OUR MP ARE WITH CRIMINAL BACKGROUNDS. THESE CRIMINAL MP'S WILL SAVE PRABHAKARAN AFTER ACCEPTING BRIBE. SO WHAT SREELANKA HAD DONE WHAT INDIA CANOT.

Sri Lanka Premature Victory by Fong Seng Lee on 2009-05-23 16:41:42.82084+05:30 Prabhakaran became an unyeliding inflexible leader in the end. The problems his people faced were near insurmountable. The Sinhalese majority have violent histories towards the Tamils and their own.India as usual miscalculatd by their characteristic unreliable behaviour with then against the Tigers. The Tigers is not one indivudal but a mindset. These are a formidable and highly polished army of committed individuals with a psyche not easily understood. They will continue and their tactics will change. They are international and more sophisticated. Their battles will be psychologically more devastating to Colombo. Over 6000 regulars dead and 30,000 wounded compare with the US in Iraq. That number was not reached even after 5 years against more aggressive better armed enemies.Sri Lanka remains a dangerous place. The Chinese are now on the move and Trincomalee at the heart of this war will not go to the US but to China in the end. India will have an unwelcome Navy at its doors

Had Prabhakaran be caught alive by vijoy on 2009-05-23 12:09:16.13691+05:30 That would have been the worst. At first his health would have been taken care of then his long trial, in Sri Lanka then in India. By the time a judgemnt came he would have been an old man.The best thing happened to him and no extra expenses were involved in keeping him alive and then garnering sympathy from his followers who would have planned his escape from captivity. He went to a place meant for such ruthless terorist. No person in his real sense will lament his death.

Secular and non separatist (Language,Race, color, economic status. by Khrishna on 2009-05-23 10:39:03.304131+05:30 Its very important for India to keep foreighn diplomacy totally in the hands of Central governament. State Govt. leaders should not play or speak out on foreighn aid and politics of language, Race, color or relegion any more. PLease make it a constitutional law in our democracy. Its shocking to know that, srilankan tamil issue had become state governament political mandate capitalising on vote bank. Some people like Vaiko and others puting India on a dark spot. Its better, Tamil Nadu comes out of cinamatic parties and leaders. Its better these leaders themselves put young people of state to do administration. This is the right time.Unless we take a right turn nothing never happens. We are matured democracy and lets bring in two party system in the centre at least. We need the selfless cooperation of Jayalalitha and Karunannidhi in doing so.This is a secular country, not only in terms of region but color race, the language individuals speak. Let India be example to the world

End Of Terrorism/Terrorists From Sri Lanka by NP on 2009-05-23 10:08:27.244722+05:30 Sri Lankan President has done A GOOD JOB for his Country as for INDIA as well.AND the Tamils as well. Without peace NO development could be undertaken. Common people were facing the hardships for nothing. The President appears to be sincere when he says that the displaced Tamils will be rehabilitated and the elections will be held in their areas. Sri Lanka did a sensible thing to buy the weapons from China thus sparing the Indian central Govt.the headache. Whatever has happened is good for all, even the death of Prabhakaran is good for India. His prosecution in India would have been a big headache and the big jail break could have taken place. Now India should help Sri Lanka to help the Tamils.Everybody should prosper hereafter peacefully. Other countries in the region should get inspiration from this and finish the terrorism from their soil for ever.

He thinks India is afraid of SL by Jai on 2009-05-23 10:04:26.024882+05:30 Rajapaksa comments that India should not be afraid of SL.. its pathetic to hear this. Our gutless leaders have allowed him to speak this, none in India has Indra Gandhi's boldness. If you are powerful you should shown them to the world if not no one will respect us. India's stand on any foreign policy is vague, afraid of SL, Bangladesh, Pakis and Chines and even Nepales. Spineless PM led by an Italian family is ruining our country. India has no guts to fight with Pakis, Bangaladeshis and terrorist who destroy our country but supporting SL genocide from behind. Accumulating wealth without protecting our citizens is waste, We should rather eat once in a day and live with dignity as long as we live.

Are these people human? by Jai on 2009-05-23 09:55:23.763944+05:30 Its pathetic that lot of our country men don't follow the history and news, they are calling RajaPaksa as efficent president, do you know how maany innocents he killed to capture one single man? Official number is 10,000 civilians, 22,000 LTTE soldiers and 6000 SL soldiers. About 25,000 are badly injured and 280,000 lost their home, farm, family, relatives. History has never seen such brutal war, chemical and cluster bombs were used against civilians, thousands of people died due to starvation and hundred of women, girls were raped. No human being will tolerate this, if they had to just kill Prabhakarn, they should have killed him alone. Why din't SL allow any media in to their country? Why did they kill their own journalists? If you believe what ever SL army says, then go and look at their history. Any one who supported and appreciated SL should hang in shame. I pray God for these innocent people and never on earth this should be allowed.India is run by a culture less Italian.

Take no prisoners! by Ronald D'Souza on 2009-05-23 09:25:41.77435+05:30 I have serious doubts if V. Prabhakaran died in a fire fight or as more likely was murdered in cold blood when trying to surrender. The fact that there were no journalists or any independent people on the battle ground along with unconfirmed news coming out of the area - clues that Prabhakaran was never meant to survive. Furthermore his entire family has been wiped out. I am no fan of Prabhakaran but everything here points to a state sponsored assassination.

parse it the right way by sonu on 2009-05-23 08:11:47.028816+05:30 - India SHOULD ensure that the SL constitution is corrected so that minority Tamils are not "legaly" discriminated.- Extremism started only because of this "legalized" discrimination.- IF India does not ensure that Tamils get equal rights and Tamils are represented in political and government jobs and in army of Sri Lanka, THEN that is a clear indication for tamils in India about their future treatment in the hands of India. A character of a county or character of person is elicited when a challenging scenario arrises. Here is a challenging scenario for India to show its character.- Indian Consitution does not say "Patils/Tamil" must be discriminated! SLIf you disagree for the above, then say why India "SHOULD NOT" ensure that SL gives equal rights and representation for Tamils in govt/army. And say why discriminatory laws in the SL constitution should not be changed.Make a valid counter-arguement rather than using "stupid" etc, using those words shows an intellectual handicap

Some reasoning.... by Roy Choweller on 2009-05-23 05:02:14.065685+05:30 Lets imagine a propotionate Chinese community populace within Tamil Nadu. What would a Prem do...rather comment about. I cannot fathom reason for India to secede Kashmir to a Khasmiristan or Pakistan....they are our brothers

What a silly argument by Prem by Natwarlal Patel on 2009-05-23 00:16:25.495351+05:30 PremYou are having wild imaginations. Do you think the experienced guys sitting in Central Govt and Foreign relations are idiots? Screw your pathetic logic. We trust Manmohan Singh and his officials who knows what is good for the country. If you are the PM, the world will die of conflicts. Rajapaksa seems to be honest and has given a open pledge to give autonomy to Tamils and never act against the interests of India. Stop your venemous, silly, divisive and useless thoughts.

A cunning man - Better for India to hedge with tamils in their portfolio by Prem on 2009-05-22 18:29:13.484472+05:30 Rajapaksa is a cunning man. A budhist govt which will side with China (buddhist), because India is a Hindu nation (and Tamils are Hindus), also buy siding with China they will get more!It is better for India to1. Nudge SL to give tamils "political autonomy" as in India2. Ensure that all ethnic communities are represented in the SL Govt, and also in Army/Judges/Executive positions (as it is in India). In India we every major community rules themselves.3. If not directly, India can use US/Britain to do the nudging part. It is in the long terms interest of India that Tamils feel cared about and treated equal.4. Tamils are watching India. What happens to their brothers will happen to Assamese, Bengalese, Sikhs, Gujaratis living abroad!5. India should learn from China to protect all their communitie's interests abroad. Look at China that uses all covert means for their peoples' interest!!
