“This is the first time I’m doing something like this. Although I have faced the camera for some commercials in Pakistan, this will be absolutely new for Indian viewers as it was for me,” says Akram, who sports long hair and a two-day stubble to go with the brooding look of a lover in the album Soona Soona.
“It is like one of those Bollywood heroes, but I told the band I would not do this if I was made to dance like them,” laughs Akram, who has wife Huma co-starring in the album. “Wasim and I loved the song so we decided to go ahead and do this,” says Huma, who took a break from psychotherapy to act before the camera.
But when the band and their new models were not shooting in Karachi, they were of course playing cricket. “We just went out with out bats when we were not doing music,” says Rameez Mukhtar, vocalist of Fuzon. “Although we played with a tennis ball, the games weren’t so easy, just like acting isn’t cakewalk,” says Akram, who calls himself a Bollywood fan and has been tripping to the beats of Mauja hi mauja from Jab We Met.
So is Bollywood next? “I’m not so young anymore. Even if I did get a role it would be as a character actor, which would be fun. But acting is a tough thing to do,” he admits. Meanwhile, he is getting ready to be part of a reality show with Sushmita Sen. “But I’m not allowed to talk more about it,” says Akram.
