Tum Mile is a story of two people, who meet and fall in love all over again on July 26 when the rains played havoc in Mumbai. Soha Ali Khan and Emraan Hashmi, both fresh out of college meet in Cape Town, South Africa and fall in love. They start living together. After the initial few months of love and romance, things take an ugly turn and they decide to go their separate ways. Both start life afresh. Six years later they meet in Mumbai on July 26. While the city is flooded, both of them are stranded and are looking out for ways to reach home safely. That is when they see each other and Emraan offers Soha a helping hand. They realise that their feelings have not changed even after a gap of 6 years. That night they discover more about each other than they ever did six years back.

july 26 started off as any other day in the life of an ordinary Mumbaikar. Little did they know that the events, which would unfold, would change the way they looked at the Mumbai rains forever. I remember we were working on the sets of Kalyug, late into the night, blissfully unaware of the lashing rains outside. The shock of walking outside and seeing the rampage the rain has created left an inedible impression on me. As we trudged on home, I saw hundreds of cars at a stand still, a complete shut down of the public transport system, millions stranded and the city plunged into complete darkness as the skies wrecked havoc. I saw fear on people's faces, trying to reach their families, hanging on to their dear lives, a question of dread on every face 'what if I can't make it out of here?' Suddenly it made me take stock of everything that is truly important to me. And it was while witnessing this transience of life that the idea of making Tum Mile came to me. The night of July 26 provided me with a turbulent and dramatic backdrop for the love story I wanted to tell, a night that gave us all a shared understanding that life really is loaned to us, for a very short time and we have to make each moment with our loved ones truly count.
