Hrithik roshanThe actor revealed that the defect surfaced when he was around six years old.
He is a Bollywood superstar and is known for his impressive dialogue delivery but it is hard to believe that actor Hrithik Roshan's childhood was traumatized because of stammering, a problem which plagues him even today.

The actor, who acquired the heartthrob status overnight with his debut-hit 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hain', revealed that the defect surfaced when he was around six years old.

"Everything seems normal till you start talking. The minute you start talking, you get stuck and you don't know why? Right from your toes to the ends of your hair strands, you are in complete shock. Your heart palpitates, you don't understand and you are aware of people looking at you. You can compare it to hell," Hrithik said.

Recalling his school days on director Farah Khan's celebrity chat show 'Tere Mere Beach Mein', to be broadcast this Saturday on Star Plus, the 35-year-old said his childhood turned hell after his classmates began teasing him.

"Unfortunately, it's one of those handicaps that is made fun of. Especially kids, you can't blame them but they end up being mean because it looks funny. So the childhood of a person suffering from a problem like this is pure hell... you have to go through all those little moments of hell," the actor said.

Attending oral examinations was the most dreaded one for the heartthrob, who played a superhero in the 2006 blockbuster 'Krrish'.

"For oral tests at school, I used to bunk school, I used to fall sick, I used to break my hand, I used to get a sprain."

When asked how long the speech defect has bothered him, Hrithik said, "Six to 35. I am 35 (years old)."

The actor, however, said that things improved for him gradually, after he started practicing speech therapies on a daily basis.

Last seen in the epic 'Jodhaa Akbar', the Hrithik has won four Filmfare awards for the best actor after debuting in the industry eight years ago. His next film 'Kites' is expected to release by the end of this year.

hrithik stammering by ABAHSH on 2009-09-29 14:33:56.580756+05:30 i really think that hrithik is a true actor bcoz he had struggle with his problem i can understand this bcoz i also have stammering problem. hrithik is my idle. i think guys like hrithik understand one's problem. so iff a movie is made on awareness about stammering, hrithik is definetely going to make justice to it as he knows how much pain a stammerer had to go in this so called great Indian society where people make fun of a handicap instead of providing help.

Movie on stammering by Manpreet singh on 2009-09-26 14:47:23.004184+05:30 Now Hrithik should act in a film that shows the dark side of stammering. The emotional part and the struggle that a stammerer goes through.Bcoz no other actor knows this better than him. This movie should not be like other movies in which stammering is introduced just to make the people laugh at it and enjoy. This movie should make the people cry at the feelings and struggles of a stammerer.I am sure if given a right direction and an actor like Hrthik roshan, this movie will definitely go for Oscar. No doubt in that. And if someone makes this movie in Hollywood that I wud like Will Smith to be the actor. He is the only Actor who can act in any type of movie and can also make people cry with his Talent in acting .Just like he did in "Pursuit of Happyness" and "7 Pounds". Come on guys. If we want to spread Awareness in India about stammering in the right sense, Movie is the only option. But the story should be gud like pursuit of happyness.I pray to God that some director reads this.
