Did you ever take a shortcut while shooting the film?
Well, while shooting in Thailand, we were out shopping at a mall and someone suggested we take some other shorter route to reach our hotel quickly. We took that shortcut and ended up getting stuck for more than two hours. After that we decided to never take any shortcuts in life!

How is Anil as a producer?
Oh Anil is an amazing guy, very adjusting and always ready for new suggestions. It was wonderful working with him.

What is different about Short Kut...?
Short Kut... is not exactly a comedy film. It is a serious film that is presented in an entertaining way. It is about marital life and divorce so that way it deals with a serious issue. The USP of my films is that I never resort to any stereotypical characters. My films are simple and my jokes are about day-to-day things in life. You will not hear any of my jokes on sms or email because they are all original and real.

Why do you only write and direct comedy films? Is comedy your forte?
No, absolutely not! In fact it might sound weird but I would love to make a serious film. My films have comic undertones because I look at the funnier side of life. Everybody looks at situations differently but I use comedy as a defence mechanism.

Recent film that you liked?
I loved Taare Zameen Par. It was such a beautiful film.

What are your expectations from the film?
I am confident that the film will do well. We have come up with a good film and I have worked really hard on it. I am looking forward to the release and I am sure that the audience will appreciate the film.

Is your film for the masses or classes?
Well, it is definitely for the masses. The film is for anyone who loves going to the theatre.

Why did you choose Amrita Rao to play a glamorous girl?
The casting for the film was done much before I came into the picture as a director. Amrita was the perfect choice for the part because people have not seen her in a glamorous image. Katrina Kaif is already a glamorous face and casting her would have been easy. Amrita looks glamorous in the film and carries off the look with panache.

And what about Arshad Warsi and Akshaye Khanna?
Like I said the cast was finalised before I joined the team but I was really happy with Akshaye. He is an intelligent actor and I have worked with him in Priyan’s films. He has amazing comic timing and screen presence, the correct choice for this film.

From where do you derive all the humour for your films?
I have a theory that life is all about things that you couldn’t do or achieve. If at the end of the day you can still look at the funny side and laugh about your life, you are a winner. Life teaches me to look at the lighter side and I derive all the inspiration from there.

What’s happening to Run Bhola Run? The film was embroiled in controversy sometime back.
We have finished shooting and right now the film is in the post-production stages. We were supposed to finish shooting the film by February but we had to reshoot certain portions. That kept getting delayed because Tanushree Dutta didn’t have the dates. But now everything is fine and we are looking to release it sometime in October.

There were reports in the papers that Anil Kapoor apparently reprimanded Akshaye Khanna for not being a part of the film’s promotional events. Is that true?
I am not the right person to comment on this issue. Anyway even if it is true it was more of a negative publicity. I don’t think my film needs any kind of negative publicity to survive.
