Creative Quotient:
Wonder writer-director Michael Patrick King brings back his wonder gals Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) still in love with Mr Big (Chris Noth), touchy Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) in conflict with motherhood and wifely duties, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) a compulsive romantic with an adopted moppet of a daughter and sexy Samantha (Kim Cattrall) whose toyboy is out-buying a huge diamond ring at an auction for her. The foursome is a close-knit quartet who discuss everything under the sun openly - from the latest shoe label to “how many times a week”! It’s a kitty group that every metropolitan woman is party to.
Unabashedly consumeristic, romantic and unrepentant they are all preparing for Carrie’s big fat wedding with Mr Big. Labels and brands are paraded with gay abandon. But the groom balks at the aisle and backs out at the last moment. The foursome stick together in this moment of crisis and take off with Carrie to Mexico where she was to honeymoon with Mr Big. When they are back in New York, will the repentant Mr Big be able to woo back Carrie is what the plot is all about. Suffice it to say that it has a fairytale ending. The film fumbles on account of it’s length, stretching up over two and a half hours, it’s a tad too long.
Technical Expertise:
No adaptation is easy, more so a successful telly series at that. This high gloss film owes it to John slick camera work, Thomas’s smart edit and above all to Lydia Marks’s snazzy costumes right from the voluminous wedding gown to the two-piece swim wear that the four heroines flaunt. High on sex content as the name suggests, this one makes for a great chick watch. And a deserving antidote to high on testosterone Indiana Jones lastest installment.
Rating:
Three stars - one for corny humour, mushy sentiments and third one for the style quotient of the film and the players thereof.
