What are the country’s two loves? Cricket and films, we can hear you chorus. Making the most of that lethal, if we may say so, combination is Colors channel with its new weekend show 'Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina'. Pegged as India’s “first cricket format” show, 'Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina' will see present day cricketing chaps team up with some of television’s prettiest ladies and get them together to shake a leg on the floor. And while Sushmita Sen and Wasim Akram will judge the two, stepping into the anchor’s stilettos is last season’s 'dancing queen' Sandhya Mridul.
The decision to be a part of the show admits the actor was “quick and fast”. “Like every Indian I am passionate about cricket and dance too. I was fond of dancing but never really thought I could perform a sequence until Jhalak Dikhla Jaa happened,” tells Mridul who has been twirling on her toes ever since. “I have been performing all over the world and loving every bit of it,” adds the actor who admits to “discovering” the dancer in her finally!
But if you have your expectations high on seeing Mridul sizzle on stage, she’s lets out her role. “Actually there won’t be much of me dancing, only a bit. I am playing host for once,” she laughs admitting to sharing a “wonderful rapport” with the cricketers. Remember she’s hosted Extraa Innings on Set Max sometime back. As far as all the cricketing action on this channel goes, there are quite a few dishy players lined up. There’s Sreesanth teaming up with Surveen Chawla, Harbhajan Singh with Mona Singh, Irfan Pathan with Ashima Bhalla, Dinesh Karthik with Nigar Khan, Nikhil Chopra with Barkha Bisht and Vinod Kambli with Shama Sikander.
“Who wouldn’t love to see cricketers dance? It’s an amazing format really,” spoke Sandhya who by the way isn’t just dancing for now. “I am an actor first and I do have a few films lined up,” she tells. Among them is Arshad Warsi’s home production and another by Anubhav Sinha that stars Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher. And while she would love to do an item number, Sandhya is looking to sign up only for “good cinema”. “I am not so fussy about the size of the role but it should give me scope to act. Like I loved Farhan’s role in Rock On,” Sandhya says. Watch out for her!
