Donning a flowing chiffon saree matched to the T with her own jewellery, she walked in at the store full of gushing ladies. “It’s always good to be home. You have no idea how lucky you are to be in such a nice city,” dimpled Kirron who made sure we caught the trailer of Saas, Bahu aur Sensex before a conversation. First things first.
She’s no longer a Punjabi mummyji onscreen. “It was getting too stereotypical. Of course playing Punjabi comes easy but it’s time to give it a break,” mentioned the actor who is now stepping out as Mrs Sen in the film. “There were umpteen reasons to do this film. One, it’s Warner Brothers’ first release in India and also the story is so different and so is my character,” Kirron runs us through the script that brings in loads of women - kitty party types to affable homemakers - and a stock broker.
“I still know nothing about the stock markets. Interestingly, once the trailers have gone on air, I have started getting calls from investors,” chuckles Kher who once again will be seen pulling out her own ensembles and jewellery in the film, both of which are understated and elegant (that’s the third use of the word!). “I have always worn my own...even in Devdas,” tells Kirron who mentions Khamosh Pani and Devdaas as some of her most favourite works. “That’s the kind of watchable cinema that I am looking to do,” Kirron’s list for the year includes Dostana, Kambakht Ishq and Action Replay and as she says so herself, ‘you won’t see me play a Punjabi mummyji again except in Dostana.’
Speaking of her real avatar, son Sikander Kher has made his debut this year and with two films under his belt, hope he’s done Mum proud. “He got rave reviews and is already working on a few more projects,” answers Kher who doesn’t dish out advice to his son at the drop of a hat. “Today, kids are independent. Of course we discuss work at home but in the end the decision is theirs alone,” the real mum sums it up for now. Here’s looking forward to Mrs Sen!
