“C Kkompany is a commercial film and a comedy. I’m tired of playing only serious roles. I think it is important for an actress to not have a serious image,” she says, quite, er, seriously. Also, Sen states that it was not difficult to come out of the artsy mode and into commercial mode. “Because I’m not like that in real life,” she explains. “Sachin Yardi used to tell us to make our actions louder, to exaggerate them. For the first two days, I found it difficult as I am used to subdued actions, but then I got comfortable.” She admits that she did find doing the dances quite difficult.
C Kkompany is a comedy but surprisingly, Sen doesn’t have any comic scenes. “I am this very bossy girl, the sister of a don (Mithun Chakraborty) who keeps nagging Tusshar Kapoor’s character,” she says. “My role is well-etched out but I am not doing anything comic at all.”
Sen says she had a lot of fun off the sets too. “Sachin has got this great sense of humour,” she says. “And Tusshar is very disciplined and down-to-earth. It was his production and he made me feel very comfortable.”
Though she feels she’s done enough second-leads, “If someone like Pradeep Sarkar or Vidhu Vinod Chopra asks me to do a cameo, I won’t refuse.” Sen may wish to appear in more commercial films, and she does state she has signed a film where she is the solo lead, but right now, her future projects fall out of the mainstream bracket. She has Madhureeta Anand’s Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye, Aparna Sen’s The Japanese Wife and Rituparno Ghosh’s Nouka Dubi with sister Riya.
“I get nervous before every film,” she says. She has many expectations from C Kkompany. “I don’t get bogged down by flops, but a hit is important,” she admits.
