"Prem has an immense reach. Mothers see their sons in Prem and some women see their ideal companion in him. I had to live up to the character's reputation and also to everyone's expectations," said Sood.

"I had no inhibitions because the audience is already aware of Prem's existence. They identify with his character and love him," he said adding he has given his own touch to the character.

Identifying himself with his on-screen character in 'Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi', the actor said, "I too come from a small town with dream of making it big in Mumbai. Prem is committed in his relationship and is willing to wait for the woman he loves till eternity."

Having played supporting roles in 'Jodhaa Akbar' and 'Singh is Kinng', Sood is shifting to lead roles with 'Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi' and 'Dhoondte Reh Jaoge' releasing later this year.

"I have played lead roles in 'Ashiq Banaya Aapne', 'Sheesha' and 'Bhagat Singh' earlier but I am interested in good characters whether lead or supporting. Audiences relate to characters than the actors," he said.

Speaking on the genre of films which appeal to him, the actor said romance and family dramas have a wider reach as they touch the chords of people across all sections of the society.

"My ideal film would be a romantic film with element of action in it," he said. Sood said though he came to Mumbai with a dream to become a hero, it were negative roles that won him recognition.

"I got noticed because of negative roles in Hindi and in the South. I have done 13 Telegu and seven Tamil movies. 'Yuva' was my first major success in Hindi," he said.

Sonu said that he has been waiting for good scripts to come his way. "But, I have learnt to be patient. You get what you deserve," he said.

"Every day is a new learning experience. I find there has been growth in me as an actor. There is always an urge to give the best. Only difference is earlier there was insecurity and now the confidence level has grown," he added.

Also, he would soon begin work on 'Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene,' a Sony pictures production. "It is a comic thriller. It's a phenomenal role about a man surviving in Mumbai and how life changes for him with a phone call," he added.
