Oomph galore at Delhi Fashion Week auditions

FashionJury members at the model audition for Delhi Fashion Week.
Delhi Fashion Week, the luxury platform that works toward discovering talent from across the world and presenting them in a distinguishing international format, organized an All India Model Auditions in New Delhi. The auditions to identify faces with attitude along with flair and oomph lasted almost the entire day. The models selected through the auditions get a rare opportunity to walk the runway for the most creative talent showcasing at Delhi Fashion Week.

Organized at Le Meridien in New Delhi the auditions were open to all new and aspiring models in the country. This all India model search was spearheaded by an eminent panel of jury comprising of members from the fashion and media industry. The jury board included eminent designers like Rohit Bal, Malini Ramani, Atsu Sekhose, Alpana Mittal (Azara), Rahul Reddy, adman Prahlad Kakkar, leading models Fleur Xavier and Neha Kapur, fashion photographer Tarun Khiwal and Illa Kumar a talent manager. Also present as a special guest on the occasion was an RJ Nikita from Radio One who have partnered with the Delhi Fashion Week to ensure that people from across the country can register themselves for the auditions.

Excited about the upcoming edition of Delhi Fashion Week, Sumeet Nair, head, Delhi Fashion Week said, 'Delhi Fashion Week stands for creativity and has set a new benchmark for the fashion industry in terms of organizing events by its very first edition. We are constantly on a look out for new talent that can infuse freshness into the event as well as the industry. Model Auditions is a rigorous pre-event exercise that creates an excellent level playing ground for all those who aspire to be models and have the potential to make it big in times to come.'

The jury carried the intricate task of finding the right aptitude ranked both male and female models that came for auditions from across the country through the day. The auditions started early morning where more than 200 aspiring models from all over India participated and it continued till late afternoon included several rounds of walk on the runway to shortlist the most befitting models. The ranking of the jury will be collated later and the final list of selected models will be announced closer to the event.

Also present for model auditions, Rohit Bal designer said that he is looking for the following characteristics, 'New, fresh, younger, charismatic, attitude and a more contemporary look… avant-garde and international.'

Speaking on the occasion, Fleur Xavier, an established model said, 'Not every new model knows the in roads into the modeling circuit. Auditions help provide a platform for a free and fair selection. Talent gets noticed, appreciated and rewarded. We can't get to everybody but everybody can get to us. Plus it is an opportunity to present modeling world with fresh faces."

To this Neha Kapur, another leading model added, 'Yes model auditions do give a fair chance to the new comers and is an ideal way of finding fresh talent. Model auditions by a professional judge can also identify the true potential of a client in its raw form.'

Malini Ramani, a designer and also a part of the jury for the auditions said, 'We are looking for tall models that have stage presence and have a great walk. Model Auditions are vital for the industry at large because they are the only way to spot new talent.'

According to Atsu Sekhose, designer, during model auditions he is looking for someone who is,' Fresh, young and confident…The model need not be pretty but must have attitude, good height and proportionate body.'

Tarun Khiwal, fashion photographer, further adds, 'The model audition is an opportunity to find new talent who believe in themselves. They may be raw but may have individual personalities.'

The Delhi Fashion Week will take place at the luxury destination, Emporio from 19th March to 24th March, 2009. It will be a fully tented outdoor showcase in line with leading international fashion weeks.
