Ace Show biz quoted Nelly from his interview to 'Star' magazine where the hip-hop star said that he will only propose to Ashanti if she can be a more independent person and "puts her mom in her place soon."
In the same interview Nelly revealed that Ashanti is the special one in his life. Professing his love for the glamorous hitmaker, Nelly declared that their romance "is serious".
"That's the thing between me and her, we just like having fun," he said at the Lavo club in Las Vegas, where he was celebrating his 34th birthday.
"I think it's always serious when you can hang with a person continuously and [still] have fun."
The pair have been together for five years after having met in 2003.
