According to designer Akki Narula, Kareena Kapoor is India’s answer to Sarah Jessica Parker. The stylist is responsible for Kareena’s stylised new look in Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambakkht Ishq. Conceiving the look for the actress was easy, he says as she plays a Los Angeles supermodel. Firstly the entire film was based in LA and secondly, she had the looks of a model. Then it was a film being made on international standards. “The film was shot at Kodak studio, Universal Studio, Paramount Studio and in LA and Venice. So the look had to match the surroundings. For this, producer Sajid Nadiadwala sent me to the fashion capital of Milan to source for clothes,” says the designer who had earlier done Kareena’s clothes for Tashan, which exude grace and attitude

Narula was in Milan in July 2008 and since the film was to release in the second half of 2009, he had to keep in mind the trends, the colours, look when he conducted the research. “It was important to keep in mind the release of the film. Many of the accessories were hand-picked,” he states.

Kareena will be seen mostly in dresses throughout the film. The theme, he has used in called blocking or multi-colouring, wherein she has been made to wear one colour outfit, with another colour shoes and a different colour handbag. “In a scene she is wearing a white vest with a pink corset, parrot green shoes and purple bag. Soon this would be the trend. Along with her short dresses, I have given her 6-inch heel which she has carried off very well. In all she has worn over 50 different coloured pairs of shoes in the film. Narula asserts that Kareena has never sported this very confident look. She has also worn balloon dresses and off-shoulder clothes. “She has a different look in each scene and she had complimented very well with my experiment. The black belt with the bikini however was her idea,” he beams.
