Erstwhile 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson, who is auctioning off more than 2,000 items from his Neverland ranch personal collection, is doing so out of his own free will and not due to any financial compulsions, reported ‘Mtv.com’.

Darren Julien, president of Julien's Auctions who is handling the sale, told ‘Fox News’ that Jackson has not been forced into this decision.

"He has never had an auction. We have been working closely with him for five months and he is in complete control of this. This is something that Michael is doing of his own free will. He is not being forced into it." said Julien.

The four day auction that will be held this April, will see everything from the singer's 1982 American Music Award for hit single 'Thriller' to a velvet cape given to him by his children as a Father's Day gift, go under the hammer.

"Michael Jackson was a collector of everything, We've never seen a collection that is as extensive and eccentric as his," said Julien.

Items in the collection include three suits of armour, fine paintings, costumes, baubles, massive statues, awards, furniture and even the gates to his ranch. An estimated total value of all the items on the block is USD1.5 million to USD 3 million.
